Hello everyone! I’m excited to share that our family is about to embark on a journey we’ve been dreaming about for years. We’re hitting the road in our motorhome, spending the next four to six months traveling through Europe. We plan to dive into the cultures and sights of Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, England, and Scotland.
With our motorhome as our moving home base, we’re hoping for an unforgettable experience filled with adventures, learning opportunities, and plenty of quality family time. Most of our winter will be spent in the warmer climates of Spain and Portugal, where we’ll settle for longer stays, especially since it’s the ideal time of year to explore these regions.
Preparing for Life on the Road
Preparing for a trip like this has meant putting together lists, planning our itinerary, and ensuring we’re as prepared as we can be for months on the road. I’ll be sharing more details on each of these topics in future posts, but here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come:
- The Ultimate Motorhome Prep List: Packing for a family of six (plus a dog!) is no small feat. From essential travel documents to our motorhome essentials, I’ll share the steps we’re taking to make sure we have what we need without overpacking. This list covers everything from clothing and supplies to pet care and roadside tools.
- Road-Friendly Recipes and Meal Planning: With limited space, I’m creating a meal plan that’s easy to prepare on the road. Think quick breakfasts, versatile lunch ideas, and dinners that everyone loves but don’t require loads of ingredients. I’ll be posting some of my go-to recipes soon, perfect for motorhome life and budget-friendly too.
- Safety Precautions for Traveling Abroad: Safety is a big focus for us as we prepare. This means making sure our motorhome is road-ready, planning safe driving routes, and ensuring we have appropriate insurance coverage in each country. I’ll also be sharing how we’re preparing the kids for different environments and some basic precautions we’re taking to stay safe.
- Roadschooling on the Move: One of the most exciting parts of our trip will be integrating travel with learning. We’ll be roadschooling the kids throughout the journey, focusing on hands-on experiences and real-life lessons tied to the places we visit. This includes historical sites, natural landmarks, and museums—and I’ll be sharing our plans and resources for making the most of educational opportunities on the road.
- Itineraries and Must-See Spots: We’re in the process of crafting itineraries for each country, with plenty of flexibility to enjoy the unexpected. I’ll share our top destinations, including family-friendly spots, hidden gems, and recommended campsites and stopovers for fellow motorhome travelers.
A Taste of Our Itinerary
- Spain and Portugal: With the winter months being a bit milder, we’ll spend the most time in Spain and Portugal, exploring coastal towns, historical cities, and natural parks.
- France and Italy: Our stops here will include some classic landmarks, beautiful countryside, and culinary hotspots. The kids are especially excited about seeing the Eiffel Tower and sampling gelato!
- England and Scotland: We’ll finish our trip exploring the landscapes and historical sites of the UK. From English castles to the rugged Scottish Highlands, it will be an amazing way to conclude our journey.

I’ll be posting updates as we go, so you can join us virtually on our European adventure. Each step of the journey—challenges and triumphs alike—will be shared here, along with tips for families interested in doing a similar trip.
Stay tuned for our first updates from the road! We can’t wait to share this adventure with you.
